LIEUTENANT COLONEL PAT ALLEN ROYAL LOGISTIC CORPS
Lieutenant Colonel Pat Allen joined his local Territorial Army unit in 1990, enlisting as a Rifleman in B Company, the 5th Battalion (Shropshire) Light Infantry; he served for six years as a junior non-commissioned officer in 5LI during which time he passed the Regular Commissions Board as an Army Bursar. At university he studied physiology and sports science following which he entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as a regular Officer Cadet in September 1998.
Lieutenant Colonel Allen spent his early career at Regimental Duty between Aldershot and Gutersloh completing operational tours in the Balkans, Northern Ireland and Iraq. As a junior staff officer he served at 102 Logistic Brigade and at 1st (UK) Armoured Division. Following a short stint as an instructor on the RLC Troop Commanders’ Course he promoted to major and returned to Deepcut as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Defence College of Logistics and Personnel.
In 2010 he assumed command of 68 Logistic Brigade Support Squadron, within 6 Regiment RLC at Dulmen Station. Following army reorganisation and the closure of Dulmen he assumed command of 62 Materiel Squadron and deployed on Operation HERRICK 15 (Oct 11-Apr 12) as the UK General Support Squadron within the UK Theatre Logistics Group – attached to the Squadron was a composite troop from 159 Regiment.
Following sub-unit command he was posted to J1/J4 Branch at the Permanent Joint Headquarters as SO2 Logistics covering Rest of World operations. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 2014 and after a short break returned to the Permanent Joint Headquarters as SO1 Mounting responsible for deploying UK forces on global operations. Highlights of the time was executing the Operation HERRICK redeployment plan, planning the UK response to counter the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in Sierra Leone and conducting theatre visits to virtually every overseas operation in Defence. Following his appointment at Northwood he deployed for an eight month tour to Mogadishu as chief advisor to the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff (Support) of the Somali National Army.
Lieutenant Colonel Allen is married with two children. In his opinion, he was competitive at several sports; is a retired Ironman; a semi-retired cyclist but still enjoys outdoor activities with his family. He remains an avid supporter of many sports including being a season ticket holder of an underperforming premier league football team.
